ESPA certification "sets the bar" and provides the foundational knowledge and skills required to pursue a career in many fields, including commercial and residential A/V, telecom, cable, satellite, fire & security, computers, building and general trades, advanced manufacturing, and green technologies. Some other professions such as architects, builders and engineers also would benefit from ESPA’s foundational electronic systems training.
The ESPA Certified-EST®
is the standard for entry-level ESTs.
The exam tests a technician candidate's understanding of industry basics and is a true indicator of whether or not the technician is prepared for a 21st century technology career.
The exam is based upon the best practices of the commercial and residential electronic industries. ESPA's core curriculum was written by longtime industry educators and innovators. The ESPA Certified-EST® is the building block upon which advanced specialty certifications can be pursued. The products below cover the following electronic systems concepts: Electrical Basics; Construction Methods and Materials; Tools; Wiring and Installation Practices; and Safety, Codes and Standards.
ESPA has several training and testing options for you.
We strongly encourage those that are new to the industry to begin with the ESPA Career Entry Survey and then proceed to the self-paced, online full review course.
If you are in the industry but have never been certified, the Pre-test Assessment will help you identify the training options you need to help you pass the
ESPA Certified-EST®
exam.
Your
path to certification:
The Pre-Test Assessment: The purpose of the Pre-Test Assessment is to
ensure that you are ready to be tested on the five domains of knowledge
(electrical basics; tools; construction methods and materials; wiring and
installation practices; and standards, codes, and safety practices) that make
up the ESPA Certified-EST. Once the Pre-Test is started, you will have up to
twenty-four (24) hours to complete and submit your assessment exam. If you fail
due to an incomplete exam, another exam will need to be purchased.
ESPA strongly encourages you to take this Pre-Test Assessment to help you
determine if:
a) you may be ready to take the exam without training,
b) the type of training you may need (from full review
course to domain-specific training), or
c) if you are ready for a higher level certification offered
by one of our partners.
Upon completion of the Pre-Test Assessment, you will receive a domain-specific
scoring report detailing your knowledge of the specific areas the ESPA
Certified-EST ® exam covers. The training prescription contained in
the score report should help you decide what you need to do prior to taking the
ESPA Certified-EST ® exam. If you have questions about this Pre-Test
Assessment, please email ESPA at
